Lime Crime Venus XL Palette

I am new to Lime Crime eyeshadows, so I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I purchased this palette. It was the array of pink, berry, and burgundy shades that initially caught my eye, and after watching numerous YouTube videos about it, I eventually took the plunge and ordered it.

First of all, the packaging is beautiful. The front is graced with Venus herself, looking super glam and warm toned. I love how the colours used in the outer packaging reflect what's inside, and each colour is separated by reflective gold giving it a very luxurious feel. It is a cardboard palette which I know some people frown upon, but it is pretty sturdy and even comes with a decent sized mirror.

Lime Crime state there are metallic, matte, and 'glow' finishes. The glow finish really intrigued me, as it's not a shimmer or a glitter, more like a luminous matte. There are even some mattes that contain a fleck of sparkle throughout which is quite interesting. One of the things I really love about this palette is that it contains great transition colours, crease colours, darker outer corner shades and gorgeous all over the lid colours. So basically you won't need any other palette to create and complete an eye look.

The pigment in these shadows is fantastic, and I don't experience any fallout when working with them. Some do have some kick back in the palette when I flick my brush across them but this happens with pigmented shadows and it doesn't bother me. I am so in love with the array of colours, as there are so many looks you could create with these 18 colours.

There's a shade called Flora which is a hot flamingo peachy pink and I must admit when I first saw it I thought it would be one of my least used shades, however this is not the case. It's gorgeous blended as a transition colour and for smoking out darker shades on the lower lashline. Also, the shade called Goddess must be one of the glow finishes, and was one of the shades I used on my eyes this morning. It's so smooth and brightened up my pink smokey eye. They have even included a pale cream shade to set your concealer or primer before you start applying other shades, which is something a lot of palettes lack.

One thing that did worry me slightly is the tendency for red, plum and pink shadows to cause irritation to my eyes. However, over the last few days I have worn a variety of shades from this palette and have had no runny nose or leaking eye, which is a great relief. So if you suffer from watery eyes when you use high pigmented shadows, this may work for you.

Overall, I am so glad I bought this palette. The colour range is fantastic, and the shades complement each other beautifully. The only problem I have is trying to decide which colours to use! I really don't think it contains a shade that I don't like which is quite unusual for me. This would be a great palette to take on a weekend away, as it has more muted tones for daytime and both bright and deep tones for evening. It's so versatile and well worth the money in terms of packaging, colour payoff and the endless number of eye looks you can create.
